Protecting Your Non-Profit From Employment Law Traps

Executive Directors and Managers need to know the legal and financial traps in the employment relationship's life cycle. This program will cover legal obligations at the hiring, management, discipline, and termination stages. Topics will include federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws, sexual harassment policies, employee handbooks, the importance of record-keeping, social media policies, managing employee performance, the right way to handle employee discipline, and how to prepare for employment termination.

Nilesh Patel is the principal attorney of the Mahadev Law Group. He has over ten years of experience working with Human Resources and Employment Law issues. He has worked with small and midsized businesses and with municipalities in Wisconsin. He has also taught at the University of Wisconsin Law School for a course, Employment Law Counseling & Preventive HR. He serves as a Board member for multiple organizations, is a frequent speaker and author on labor and employment law matters, and is a member of the Middleton Chamber of Commerce, the national Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), and Greater Madison Area SHRM.
